Transformation Tuesday: John Paul Jones Arena

Transformation Tuesday: John Paul Jones Arena

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our fifth installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! This week we'll be looking at an event that we recently completed at the John Paul Jones Arena. Since it opened in 2006, the venue has been home to the Virginia Cavaliers basketball teams, and has hosted countless concerts and other events. It has seating for over 14,000 people, and is the largest indoor arena in Virginia.

For this leadership conference, we wanted to use a large projection screen to accomplish all of the event's visual needs! We needed it to fill the roles of a decorative backdrop, a presentation platform, and a visual aide for audience members throughout the arena.

Take a look at how we use projection to turn this versatile screen into decor, without sacrificing presentation content or clarity! Using multi-window capabilities, we are able to maintain precise control over the content shown, be it an overall pattern, layered images, or a picture-in-picture video stream.

October Update: Fabric and Projection

October Update: Fabric and Projection

Greetings from The AV Company!

We are in full swing this season with lots of fantastic events coming up! As we continue to challenge ourselves to provide innovative solutions for our clients, we find ourselves focusing on how to use our tools in new ways to produce interesting and exciting environments. One such tool that we often make use of is fabric. As a relatively simple element, fabric's uses are often underestimated. But when combined with lighting or projection content, it can often lend transformative properties to an event space.

For the wedding reception below, we used sheer fabric panels overhead to bring in the scale of the space, and projected organic patterns of light onto them to enhance the overall aesthetic of the room. We also created a subtly whimsical effect by layering sheer drape and twinkle lights, resulting in a cohesively charming setting. (Photos by Allegra's Studio

For another event we used draped panels of fabric as room dividers to define lounge spaces, but also as backdrops for video content to be projected upon. The sheer fabric provided a lively, playful alternative to standard opaque screens! (Photos by Will Kerner)

Transformation Tuesday: Jefferson Theater

Transformation Tuesday: Jefferson Theater

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our fourth installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! This week we'll be looking at a space with loads of Charlottesville character, the Jefferson Theater. The theater was established in 1912 as a live performance theater that hosted silent movies, vaudeville acts, and a historic list of performers. Though frequently used for concerts today, this theater has the potential to be transformed into the perfect venue for many types of events!

Take a look at how we were able to transform the space for a gala a couple of years ago. With the help of some projected film stills and patterns and some fun, energetic lighting, the Jefferson becomes a fantastic setting for the Virginia Film Festival's opening night festivities!
